Appointment Changes
Call our office to change your appointment or leave a message. If your call is after hours we will return your call on the next working day.

Emergency Appointments
Call our office to notify if you have a breakage, if a patient is in pain we will endeavour to make a same day appointment. Most problems with braces are not urgent unless causing pain, patients in pain are a priority.

Holiday Emergencies
During holiday periods our office answer phone and website contain emergency contact details for Dr Green and is cleared regularly. Patients in pain/discomfort are responded to at the earliest opportunity.

For the first 24 hours after having your braces placed you may choose to have a soft food diet. Patients may develop discomfort/pain that requires mild pain relief ie Panadol, Neurofen.
Hard, sticky food should be avoided during treatment as this will damage your braces. Hard foods such as apples and carrots can still be eaten but need to be chopped into bite sized pieces. Your treatment time can be lengthened by breakages. Advice on diet will be given to help prevent damage to your ‘braces’.

Care of ‘Braces’
Regular brushing of your teeth and ‘braces’ after eating, as instructed with a soft toothbrush is vital to your treatment. Clear instruction is given on brushing techniques once the braces are fitted.

Use of Wax
Patients are given wax to use if a bracket should rub their cheek or gum. The bracket/wire can be gently dried with a tissue. A small ball (half the size of a baby pea) should be softened and carefully pressed onto the bracket/wire (if you have run out of wax, sugar free gum can be used as an alternative).

Elastic Wear
Elastics should be worn as instructed, they are an important part of your treatment if required. Elastics will be given to you at your appointments or can be collected from reception.

Retainers are worn to stabilize your teeth in their new position and help prevent movement and need to be worn as instructed.  

Lost/Damaged Retainer
Please call the office and advise if you have lost or broken a retainer. If you are still under Dr Green’s care a retainer mould will be stored at the surgery and a new retainer can be made without an appointment. If your treatment has been completed you will have been given your retainer mould for safe keeping. This needs to be returned to the surgery and a new retainer can be made.

If Your Removable Retainer No Longer Fits
Please call to make an appointment to see Dr Green, you will need to have an impression taken to make a replacement retainer.
